- Baking pan, greased
- Measuring cup(s)
- Measuring spoons (table spoons, teaspoons)
- Large bowl for mixing
- Medium bowl for mixing wet ingredients
- Spoon or wisk for mixing
- 1 Cup flour
- 1 Cup yellow cornmeal
- 2-4 Tablespoons of sugar
- 4 Teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon salt
- 1 Cup milk
- 1/4 Cup canola oil
- 1 Large egg (or 2 egg whites) lightly beaten
Preheat oven to 425°, and grease baking pan.
In a large bowl, mix dry ingredients: flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix together.
In medium bowl, combine wet ingredients: milk, egg, and oil.
Mix well, then add to dry ingredients and combine until smooth.
Add mixture to baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven when done, and let cool for 5-10 minutes before cutting/serving. Use a knife or toothpick, stuck into the center, to check if cornbread is done. If it comes out clean, it's done!
