Classic and fantastic.


  • Baking pan, greased
  • Measuring cup(s)
  • Measuring spoons (table spoons, teaspoons)
  • Large bowl for mixing
  • Medium bowl for mixing wet ingredients
  • Spoon or wisk for mixing


  • 1 Cup flour
  • 1 Cup yellow cornmeal
  • 2-4 Tablespoons of sugar
  • 4 Teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
  • 1 Cup milk
  • 1/4 Cup canola oil
  • 1 Large egg (or 2 egg whites) lightly beaten


  1. Preheat oven to 425°, and grease baking pan.

  2. In a large bowl, mix dry ingredients: flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix together.

  3. In medium bowl, combine wet ingredients: milk, egg, and oil.
    Mix well, then add to dry ingredients and combine until smooth.

  4. Add mixture to baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven when done, and let cool for 5-10 minutes before cutting/serving. Use a knife or toothpick, stuck into the center, to check if cornbread is done. If it comes out clean, it's done!
