Appetite For Change youth, staff and their families were special guests of the Minnesota Lynx at the final home game for beloved all-star Sylvia Fowles. We cheered on Syl and her team as we celebrated her legendary career as WNBA MVP, four-time Olympian, and all around G.O.A.T. We stayed for an after-party to thank Syl for making Minnesota her home and for meaningfully engaging in the community.

As if that weren’t amazing enough, Carley Knox, Lynx President of Business Operations, presented AFC with a check on the court. Wow! What a feeling to see our Appetite For Change logo fill up the arena’s big screen as we accepted this generous donation to a crowd of tens of thousands.

Earlier this summer, Syl had a special event at the Appetite For Change Freedom Farm to celebrate Syl’s Final Ride. Joined by her teammates Aerial Powers, Rachel Banham, Natalie Achonwa, Kayla McBride, and members of the Minnesota Jr. Lynx Dream Team, they planted beets (Syl’s favorite) alongside our AFC youth participants. To close out this celebratory day, a bench was unveiled at the garden as a surprise from the Minnesota Lynx to this all-star athlete to commemorate her legacy here in Minneapolis. A plaque on the bench marks the newly planted beet patch affectionately named now as “Syl’s Sweet Spot.”

Thank you, Syl and Minnesota Lynx, for inviting us along on Syl’s Final Ride. We are grateful to count you as our friend. You have left an indelible mark on our hearts.
