‘Cause My People Gotta Eat

We use food as a tool to build health, wealth, and social change by and for Black communities. Through youth and workforce development programs, social enterprises, and policy initiatives, we build community capacity to make our own change. We believe food is the key ingredient to nourishing individual and communal well being. Racism in the local housing, economic, justice, and food systems make accessing fresh food in the Northside a challenge for many. We bring people together to learn, cook, eat, and grow food, creating change that lasts.

AFC operates our programs on the basis of a commitment to food justice. We are dedicated to addressing North Minneapolis’ inequities and developing a thriving community that offers family wage employment, career opportunities, access to fresh, local food, and social and economic growth. AFC implements this development through a comprehensive variety of direct service and advocacy-focused programming, including community cooking workshops, urban agriculture, organized food policy efforts, and job training.

In partnership with our neighbors and friends, we are feeding our people, training and employing youth, and bringing people together to lift up North Minneapolis as a leader in food systems change.
